Everyone loves a good superhero story — and comic books have always been a classic way to enjoy stories about our favorite superheroes! They may feel like a thing of the past, but there are loads of series still available to read today. Even some that have been newly published in recent years.
One of these series is Justice League of America, the superhero team consisting of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and many others. The series started all the way back in the 1960s, going through many changes, revamps, and distinct eras since.

The books often follow a similar plot of the superheroes coming together to fight a particular villain threatening the world. The number of books means that content varies slightly from simple and clean to complex and dark. Luckily the DC Comics website lists all their comics and includes an age rating system to help.
The ratings go 12+, 15+, and 17+. You’ll find many of the Justice League of America books to be 12+ (especially the older ones from the 1960s). But there are occasionally some books that are labeled 15+. Unfortunately, these ratings don’t include details or explanations on why it’s given a higher or lower rating.
Language
Some comics may include language such as “hell” and “damn it”.
Sex
Female characters are often drawn to be over-sexualized. Additionally, the comics have their fair share of romance and you might find two characters kissing. Besides that, there are no sexual scenes or depictions. Generally, these romances are not the centerpiece of stories.
Violence
As with almost any superhero comic (or movie or TV show), there is a level of violence, fight scenes, and even some deaths to be expected. The drawings can certainly be intense and may be too much for young readers. However, these comics don’t tend to be on the gory or dark side, mostly just enough to be thrilling and entertaining.
