This movie is quite light-hearted for the most part. While there are moments of tension and conflict, they are presented in a kid-friendly and humorous manner.
Moments of the movie involve some heavy emotion, particularly with the character Goldilocks. In this version of the classic fairytale, Goldilocks was adopted by her bear family and never knew her original family. As she and the bears quest for the Last Wish, she secretly hopes to use it to find her real family. However, in the end, she learns to appreciate the love and family she’s always had.
Language
The language is relatively clean, although there are a few lines of dialogue that include characters saying “What the hell”. There is also some name-calling and lots of sarcasm exchanged between characters.
Sex
There is no sexual content in this movie. There is some romance between the two characters, but it’s mostly innocent flirting.
Violence
The movie is certainly action-packed, but far from dark and violent. All of the fighting and chase scenes are comically extravagant, making it thrilling but not scary.
Positive Value 💫
There are a lot of wholesome themes in the movie about trusting your friends and being grateful for what you have in the present. This is most evident in the character of Perrito, a neglected street pup who makes friends with a begrudging Puss. In the end, Puss realizes he should learn from Perrito’s loyalty and unshakeable positive attitude.
So, should my kid watch it?
Absolutely! This is a great, kid-friendly title for ages 8 and up. And even better for families who are already Shrek fans!
