Surgeon General Calls for Social Media Warning Labels

July 10, 2024

Vivek Murthy, the U.S. surgeon general and our nation’s top doctor, recently published an op-ed in The New York Times to advocate for official warning labels on social media platforms. This is a powerful development, and will hopefully kickstart a movement to finally put more pressure on these companies to help protect families.

In his article, Murthy highlights the potential risks that social media poses to mental health, particularly among young people. His call to action underscores the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability from these powerful companies, as well as the importance of community and school involvement in managing children’s digital lives.

Check out our recent blog post that takes a deep dive into the op-ed and what it means for families
