How It’s Made: A YouTube Review for Parents

Updated January 9, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 4.5 / 5

Recommended Age: 9 and up

You may remember the How It’s Made TV show from the Discovery Channel. If not, it’s essentially a documentary-style show that explains how random things are made — everything from leather to McDonald’s nuggets, the American dollar, and really anything you can think of. Being a show made in the early 2000s, it doesn’t have the same fast-paced jump cuts or dramatic docuseries format that we’re used to from Netflix. But considering the episodes are still getting thousands, sometimes even millions of views on YouTube, How It’s Made clearly still has the power to satisfy any curious brain.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

As mentioned, the episodes are straightforward and look like your typical documentary. The narrator unfolds the making process of whatever that episode is about. There are also interview-style comments from various experts in that field. There is very little harmful content to be on the lookout for in these episodes. The process for making some things (such as those McDonald’s nuggets) may be gross or unsettling to some viewers, but not necessarily inappropriate.

Language

This channel does not have any inappropriate language.

Sex

Violence
