Overview
Calling all Lord of the Rings fans! Rings of Power is a prequel TV series that takes place thousands of years before Frodo and his adventures. This show is streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime and is based on many writings from J.R.R. Tolkien. But is it safe for kids? We did a deep dive into this popular show so you can know if it’s a good fit for your family.
Harmful Content ❗️
Parents should know that Rings of Power is very similar to the other movies in the franchise. The overall tone of the show is dark, dramatic, and suspenseful. This is likely not suitable for younger or more sensitive audiences, but many families have found that it is appropriate for kids around 12 and up.
Language
There is some occasional adult language, such as words like “hell” or “damn.” There are also some insults thrown between characters.
Sex
There are no explicitly sexual scenes in this show. There is some romantic tension between some characters, but this is not necessarily the main focus of the plot.
Violence
The Rings of Power does have some violent or more intense scenes. It’s not graphic, but there are plenty of battle scenes, attacks, injuries, and deaths throughout the show.
Positive Value 💫
Rings of Power explores themes of power, justice, courage, and the fight between good and evil. Many characters display great bravery and strength in the face of impossible circumstances. There are also many instances where friendship proves to be essential to win the fight. As well as being entertaining, this show can certainly open up opportunities for important life lessons with your child.
So, should my kid watch it?
We’d say Rings of Power is suitable for ages 12 and up. But as always, it depends on your family’s values and what you know is best for your child.
