Is the Hulu App Safe? A Hulu App Review for Parents
Recommended Age
8 and up
Overview
Along with Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, Hulu is one of the more popular video-streaming platforms out there. You can watch it on your TV, laptop, or on the go with the Hulu app. Like every other platform, Hulu has tons of content that ranges from perfectly kid-friendly all the way to definitely not for children. The good news is that you can create a kid profile to help protect them from content that’s not quite age-appropriate yet.
Harmful Content 😲
If you don’t set up a kid-specific profile, your child will be able to access TV shows and movies that have profanity, sexual content, drug use, violence, and just about any other type of inappropriate content that the movie industry produces.
Predation 🚨
The potential for predation is near zero because there’s no chat or messaging feature on the Hulu app.
Positive Value 💙
There’s tons of content on Hulu that can be entertaining, beneficial, educational, and so much more.
Privacy 🔒
When you create a kid account, the only person who will be able to see what they’re watching is you.
Parental Controls ✅
With Hulu’s built-in parental controls, you have two options: give your kid a kid-friendly account or give them access to regular Hulu. There’s not an in-between option, unfortunately. The kid-friendly version of Hulu features curated programming like cartoons, nature documentaries, and more. You can create a PIN that will prevent your kid from logging into any other Hulu profile but their own.
Bark also provides help for families who use Hulu. We’re here to help you keep your kid safe by allowing you to:
- Block Hulu on their device entirely, if needed. For extra protection, you can block Hulu on TVs and gaming consoles with the purchase of Bark Home.
- Manage when your child can use the Hulu app throughout the day.
So, should my kid download it?
Sure, if you let your kid watch Hulu at home. When you create a kid profile on the Hulu app, it’s a fairly safe viewing experience. If your child has a regular account, make sure you have a conversation about your family’s values when it comes to entertainment.
