Anyone But You: A Movie Review For Parents

Updated February 13, 2025

Overview

Overall Rating: ⭐ 1.0 / 5

Recommended Age: 17 and up

Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney star in a modern romcom, Anyone But You, with a stunning cast and the dreamy backdrop of Sydney, Australia. It’s a classic enemies-to-lovers trope that’ll make any romantic swoon. However, this is a rated R film and has tons of inappropriate adult content — in short, it’s not appropriate for kids. Let’s take a look at some specifics so that you know exactly what this popular movie includes.

Harmful Content ❗️

Rating:

The overall plot of Anyone But You is fairly simple — the two main characters dislike each other after a date gone wrong and then coincidentally end up in a wedding party together. At first, they only pretend to like each other to satisfy their friends and family. Then, inevitably, they fall in love with each other for real.

Parents should know that this movie has everything that you’d expect in a rated R romcom — crude humor, some spicy scenes between lovers, and tons of unrealistic, cheesy antics for comedic effect. One example of this is the scene where the wedding party goes for a hike. In an effort to convince the others of their fake relationship, the two main characters (Ben and Bea) decide to stick each other’s hand down their pants. Then, they find a giant spider in Ben’s pants, resulting in him removing all of his clothes in a panic.

Language

This movie has tons of adult language, including multiple F-bombs.

Sex

Anyone But You contains discussions of sex and nudity. There are multiple scenes with full or partial nudity. One scene where you can fully see a women’s bare chest and a couple of scenes where you can see a man’s buttocks.

The two main characters have a scene where they are seen showering together and cuddling in bed while naked. No sexual acts are depicted besides kissing and the main genitalia are mostly covered.

Violence

There is no violence in this movie.

Positive Value 💫

Rating:

Anyone But You has some humor and a cute storyline, and is appropriate for adults. However, there are plenty of other PG-13 romcoms that are likely better suited for your teen.

So, should my kid watch it?

We do not recommend this movie for most kids or teens due to its adult content.
